Beacon of Light taking part in Kit Out Sunderland donation initiative

Landmarks across Sunderland are set to light up red and white in support of Foundation of Light Matchday.
Sunderland AFC’s match against Millwall on Saturday 29 March will be dedicated to the organisation’s Wear One campaign and the City of Sunderland will light up in the club’s colours to celebrate the work of the club’s official charity.
Beacon of Light, the home of the Foundation, will lead the way across the weekend, and will be joined on Friday 28 March by local icons including Fulwell Mill, Hylton Castle, Keel Square, the Northern Spire bridge, Penshaw Monument, and Seaburn Lighthouse.
This will highlight Sunderland coming together as a city to address the ongoing challenges faced by many, that Foundation of Light is continuing to tackle through Wear One – including the stark reality that 1 in 3 children in the city are living in poverty according to a Joseph Rowntree Foundation report.
Ahead of a busy weekend for the Foundation and Beacon, Managing Director, Jamie Wright said: “It is brilliant to see the city coming together as a show of support for the Foundation.
“Seeing other landmarks lighting up red and white will demonstrate our togetherness as a city and a commitment across local organisations to tackle Sunderland’s challenges head on.
“Foundation of Light Matchday is a day we all look forward to as an opportunity to showcase our amazing work and raise vital funds.
“However, it is also a time where we reflect on why the work is needed, as many families within our region feel the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.
“We see first-hand the struggles faced by our community, but any donations people can make will help us deliver important services to the city’s most vulnerable.”

We are excited to host the Utilita Football Festival at the Beacon of Light on Thursday 31 July which will be a day of free activities for all the family.
Sunderland's newest landmark is one step closer to officially being named as voting opens for the people of the city to choose from the shortlisted options.
