Yard Nine sponsors Foundation of Light's Community Clubs

The new year brings new improvements at the Beacon of Light.
Our rooftop pitch in the indoor barn has recently been resurfaced.
The project was undertaken by SportEx Group, along with their artificial grass partners, Greenfields.
It was no mean feat to be able to remove the old turf and completely resurface the pitch, but the team worked tirelessly for two weeks to ensure the job was done to the best standards.
Scott van der Kleij, Sales Manager of Greenfields, said “The project presented a number of challenges for us to solve to enable us to install the new surface.
“As the facilty is three stories from ground level, a section of the roof had to be removed and all materials for the new surface lifted onto the soccer field using a large crane.”
Jamie Blamire, Managing Director of Sportex Group, added: “The Fourth Generation synthetic turf has been developed to match the performance of good quality natural grass while eliminating seasonal weaknesses resulting in a hugely durable and long-lasting pitch that is playable all year round, regardless of weather conditions.”
Alongside the new turf, the indoor barn also has a viewing gallery, accessible changing facilities, warm up area and benches.
The Beacon first opened its doors almost six years ago and the rooftop barn has always been a huge hit with attendees, with the recent refurbishment leading to an improved experience for all.

The Beacon of Light will host a dedicated Remembrance Day Fan Zone ahead of Sunderland AFC’s match against Coventry City.
Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, a trustee of Sunderland AFC’s official charity, took part in the conference and called the Beacon ‘a fantastic building’ adding that ‘what happens here is absolutely key.’
