Beacon of Light hosts Foundation's Utilita Football Festival
Beacon of Light was delighted to welcome almost 2,000 through its doors for the Utilita Football Festival.
New year, new offers at the Beacon.
Find a new passion and kickstart a healthy new you this January. Each weekday we will be hosting drop-in sessions featuring a different sport every day.
Some popular favourites as well as a brand-new offering will be available for you to come in and enjoy.
🏸 Badminton
Give your friend a run around on the badminton court.
🎾 Pickleball
The newly popular pickleball is ideal for two or four players.
Similar to tennis, pickleball uses short-handled bats to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net.
🏀 Basketball
Shoot some hoops on our half court. Can be played on your own or with friends.
🏓 Table Tennis
Have a fast-paced rally on the table tennis tables. Ideal for all ages.
⚽️ Footy Tennis
Test out your touch and control against your opponent in our brand-new sport of footy tennis.
Two opposing teams made of one, two or three players hit a football over a low net to try and score a point.
Beacon of Light General Manager, Jemma Dowson said: “We want to encourage the local community to come in and try out some new sports and get active in the new year with these drop-in sessions.”

Ahead of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup opener at the Stadium of Light, the Beacon of Light will have to close on the day of the game, due to transport restrictions.
As part of the Beacon’s commitment to making sport accessible and our goal to keep young people active over the summer, we are offering junior rates until Sunday 7 September.
