Yard Nine sponsors Foundation of Light's Community Clubs
The Beacon of Light’s Yard Nine café is giving their support to the Foundation of Light’s Community Club teams.
Sunderland fans are invited to join a free health and fitness programme hosted at the Stadium of Light.
FIT BLACK CATS is a free scheme available to supporters aged between 35 and 65 and aims to help fans lose weight and live a healthier life.
The programme was launched back in 2020 in partnership with the EFL Trust, and has already helped a number of supporters improve their lifestyles, continuing to engage fans during lockdown.
Season card holder Ben Devine joined the initiative last year and by his own admission had real health issues and a poor lifestyle, taking in no exercise or water and then drinking and eating badly on matchdays.
The 64-year-old embraced the weekly fitness sessions and made a great effort to introduce a healthier routine. He also became a real motivator in the group, inspiring others as he lost of 12kg.
Ben was one of 13 members of the FITBLACKCATS programme, who cumulatively lost 69kg across the course of the 12 weeks.
FIT BLACK CATS is delivered by coaching staff from SAFC’s official charity, Foundation of Light, with weekly sessions hosted at the Stadium of Light.
The next course is due to start this month, if you would like to register your interest, please email FIT@foundationoflight.co.uk or you can join the FITBLACKCATS Facebook group for more information.

The Beacon of Light will host a dedicated Remembrance Day Fan Zone ahead of Sunderland AFC’s match against Coventry City.
Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, a trustee of Sunderland AFC’s official charity, took part in the conference and called the Beacon ‘a fantastic building’ adding that ‘what happens here is absolutely key.’
