Yard Nine sponsors Foundation of Light's Community Clubs
The Beacon of Light’s Yard Nine café is giving their support to the Foundation of Light’s Community Club teams.
Beacon of Light will light up red and white across two successive days this week in celebration of Wear Red and White Day and Foundation of Light Matchday.
On Thursday 6 April, other landmarks throughout the region will join the Beacon in lighting up red and white.
Throughout the day, the Foundation are encouraging as many organisations as possible to celebrate the work of the charity by wearing Sunderland AFC colours.
This takes place just 24 hours before Foundation of Light Matchday, a showpiece fixture which will promote the Foundation’s life-changing work as well as its campaign, Small Change Big Difference, which will also come under the spotlight.
Once again, the Beacon will light up red and white following Sunderland’s fixture against Hull City on Good Friday.
The Beacon, which celebrates its fifth birthday next month, will also be open before kick-off (3pm) for fans wanting to access the Sunderland AFC Fan Zone.
With a busy week ahead for both the Foundation and Beacon, Managing Director, Jamie Wright said: “Foundation Matchday is a day we all look forward to within the organisation.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity to showcase the work we do, while raising vital funds to support families who are feeling the impact of the cost-of living crisis.
“All staff will be wearing wear red and white on Thursday, and we hope workplaces, schools and other organisations will join in by wearing their colours.
“Other landmarks will then join the Beacon in lighting up red and white, which will demonstrate our togetherness as a city, as we celebrate the Foundation’s life-changing work.”

The Beacon of Light will host a dedicated Remembrance Day Fan Zone ahead of Sunderland AFC’s match against Coventry City.
Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, a trustee of Sunderland AFC’s official charity, took part in the conference and called the Beacon ‘a fantastic building’ adding that ‘what happens here is absolutely key.’
