Sunderland's newest landmark is one step closer to officially being named as voting opens for the people of the city to choose from the shortlisted options.
We are excited to host the Utilita Football Festival at the Beacon of Light on Thursday 31 July which will be a day of free activities for all the family, from football coaching to arts and crafts.
Our fun days have been a hit with families across Sunderland and this year’s edition will be bigger and better with the support of Sunderland AFC partners – Utilita.
The free event will see the Beacon of Light opened to the community from 10am to 3:30pm across four different time slots – tickets must be booked in advance.
AM: 10am – 12:30pm
AM: 11am – 1:30pm
PM: 12pm – 2:30pm
PM: 1pm – 3:30pm
The Utilita Football Festival has activities across a wide range of interests, offering something for everyone:

Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult throughout the day.
Please note this is a ticketed event. No sales on the door will be available.
Correct footwear must be worn to access the football pitch on the rooftop barn, spectators must watch from the viewing gallery.
When is the Utilita Football Festival?
The Utilita Football Festival takes place on Thursday 31st July from 10am to 3.30pm. The event will be split into various time slots to manage capacity.

Does the event cost to attend?
No, the event is free to attend and all activities are free.
Who needs a ticket for the event?
Both children and adults require tickets to attend. This is to help manage capacity for each time slot.

Everybody is welcome at the Utilita Football Festival.
Where will I be able to park?

Can I reach the Beacon of Light on public transport?
There are regular bus services to and from Stadium Park, with a bus stop outside the front entrance to the Beacon. We are also based just a few minutes’ walk away from the Stadium of Light and St Peter’s (the closest of the two) Tyne and Wear Metro stops.

Is there disabled access?
Yes, the Beacon of Light is fully accessible with lifts at the front and rear of the building.
Will I be able to bring a pushchair?
Pushchairs are welcome. We are designating the area between the main entrance and indoor arena viewing gallery to store pushchairs at your own risk.
Will there be refreshments available?
Yard Nine cafe will be open. There are also vending machines near the main entrance and outside the indoor arena.
Will Sunderland AFC players be in attendance?
Although Sunderland players have attended previous events, player visits cannot be guaranteed due to training and match schedules.
