Yard Nine sponsors Foundation of Light's Community Clubs
The Beacon of Light’s Yard Nine café is giving their support to the Foundation of Light’s Community Club teams.
Over 250 youngsters took part in activities in the first week of Summer at the Beacon.
Activities included 2&3 day football courses, Summer Holiday Clubs, baking and cooking courses, Disability sports, multi-sports, Future Lionesses Day and FIFA tournament and kickabout.
We kicked off in style with special guests, Sunderland captain Corry Evans and SAFC womens star Liz Ajupi and new signing Mary McAteer. The trio joined the youngsters in playing football, badminton, basketball, table tennis and arts and crafts.
Summer Holiday Club has entertained with activities like arts and crafts, robot coding and tent building.
Families cooked up a storm in our Jamie Oliver Kitchen with the Harry Potter Baking day, making cupcakes and cookies to enjoy and take home.
A sold out Future Lionesses Day saw 40 girls cheer on the Lionesses to victory in their first World Cup game against Denmark. Let’s hope we can get a similar result against China in the second game.
Great fun was had by all at FIFA tournament and kickabout where the lads got to compete in a FIFA tournament on our Xboxes followed by some FIFA style football drills in our 3G cages.
Week 2 promises to be more of the same with some new additions thrown in such as Slime Club and Tastes of the World will be heading to Japan by making a Katsu Curry. The Beacon of Light will host a dedicated Remembrance Day Fan Zone ahead of Sunderland AFC’s match against Coventry City.
Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, a trustee of Sunderland AFC’s official charity, took part in the conference and called the Beacon ‘a fantastic building’ adding that ‘what happens here is absolutely key.’
