Beacon of Light confirms Christmas period opening hours
Beacon of Light would like to bring an update on our opening hours across the festive period.
Beacon of Light is set to be a hub for those looking to start running, becoming the meeting point for Sunderland Strollers’ new Beginners Running Group.
The Beginners Running Group starts on Monday 6th January and will meet at the Beacon of Light every Monday at 6:30pm.
The group is open for all abilities, with a focus on introducing new runners to the advantages of the sport, including the social and mental health benefits alongside the help towards fitness goals.
Sunderland Strollers is a sociable running club with over 40 years of history and more than 300 members. The new group marks a milestone for the club, offering an alternative to inexperienced runners who may not have the confidence to attend their Wednesday night meets.
“We’re really proud to introduce the Sunderland Strollers Beginners Group,” said two-time British Marathon champion and Sunderland Stroller, Aly Dixon.
“It has been incredible to see so many people enjoy the many benefits of running, both physically and socially, over the last couple of years.
“Although the sport has enjoyed a real boom, we believe there are so many more people who would enjoy taking part but may not know where to start.
“This group will provide the perfect environment, supportive and social, which will help new runners to be able to run for 5 miles continuous by the end of the course.”
New runners can join the Sunderland Strollers Beginners Group for a £15 block payment for the full 16-week course, or pay £3 to take part in individual sessions.
Anyone who signs up for the full course will receive a free running t-shirt, and those that complete it will receive a £5 discount on Sunderland Strollers membership.
The course is run by qualified run leaders and each individual group is led by experienced run leaders.
