While still in the early stages of 2024, there is still plenty going on at the Beacon of Light…
New pitch
Our rooftop indoor barn was upgraded during January. Although this meant the rooftop pitch had to be closed for a few weeks whilst SportEx Group, along with their artificial grass partners, Greenfields, could remove part of the Beacon roof and re-lay the surface.
Student open day
With the recent collaboration between University of Sunderland and Beacon of Light making the Beacon a hub for students, Team Sunderland hosted a ‘Big Day at the Beacon’ as the official launch party of the collaboration. The day saw almost 100 students through the doors for a day filled with activities.
Sunderland Strollers
we are delighted to be the new home of Sunderland Strollers, the only official running club in Sunderland North. Every Wednesday the Strollers will use the Beacon as a hub for their main club night.
Cheeki Monkeys
The baby and childrens market is coming to the Beacon on Sunday 24th March. Mams & Dads can buy or sell quality, gently used babies and children’s toys, clothes and equipment, all items are intended for maternity, babies and young children.
Movie nights
We are putting on regular weekly family movie nights on our big screen over the next few months. Not only is it free, but all attendees will also receive a free hot chocolate, thanks to funding from Premier League Fans Fund.
Free to use laptops
Thanks to Sunderland AFC and Foundation of Light’s collaboration with BornGood, supporters can now access free-to-use laptops at the Beacon of Light.
As part of a two-year Digital Inclusion Partnership, BornGood, a leading player in sustainable IT solutions, have provided £30,000 worth of laptops and desktop PCs as an accessible resource for all Beacon of Light visitors.
Gaming parties
We have recently added gaming parties to our party packages. Up to 8 people can get 90 minutes private use of our gaming room followed by 30 minutes of hotdogs and juice.

The Beacon of Light will host a dedicated Remembrance Day Fan Zone ahead of Sunderland AFC’s match against Coventry City.
Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, a trustee of Sunderland AFC’s official charity, took part in the conference and called the Beacon ‘a fantastic building’ adding that ‘what happens here is absolutely key.’
