This week the Beacon played host to the Offshore Wind North East 2021 exhibition, attracting some of the biggest names in the offshore wind industry to North East England for a major conference that shone a light on the major role the region is playing in the industry.
Taking place on 1st and 2nd December at the Beacon, nearly 800 delegates attended including speakers from organisations including The Crown Estate, bp and the developers of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, SSE Renewables and Equinor, and the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, RWE.
This is the second year that the Beacon has hosted the event, which saw the Indoor Arena transformed from sports hall to exhibition space - complete with stage, big screen and theatre style seating - in less than 24 hours.
Alongside the discussions and presentations, Offshore Wind North East hosted an exhibition area featuring in excess of 130 companies active in the sector showcase their innovative products and services, alongside dedicated networking areas for delegates and speakers.
Since launching in 2018, the official matchday Fan Zone has become a key pre-match stop off, especially for Black Cats families with a range of activities available for both children and parents.
Ahead of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup opener at the Stadium of Light, the Beacon of Light will have to close on the day of the game, due to transport restrictions.
