Beacon closed for Women's Rugby Clash
Ahead of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup opener at the Stadium of Light, the Beacon of Light will have to close on the day of the game, due to transport restrictions.
Business owners and collaborators from across the North East enjoyed the chance to network at the Beacon of Light as part of a new PLATFORM event.
PLATFORM is a monthly networking opportunity from the organisers of the popular Startup Week festivals and Founders' Friday events.
The event provides people the chance to find potential clients and customers or collaborators and a literal platform to share information about your business.
After five successful PLATFORM events held in Newcastle, the Beacon of Light became the first venue to host the event in Sunderland.
Founder of PLATFORM, Paul Lancaster, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with how well my first PLATFORM Sunderland event went at the Beacon of Light.”
Head of Events, Fiona Murphy said: “It was great to be the first place in Sunderland to host the event and see so many entrepreneurs come along to the free event.”

As part of the Beacon’s commitment to making sport accessible and our goal to keep young people active over the summer, we are offering junior rates until Sunday 7 September.
